The Best Tastes in Scotland 2005

Clark’s Guide, Scotprint, 2005

For really good quality fish and chips in Edinburgh’s New Town, look no further than L’Alba D’Oro. This family-run Italian business offers a huge range of dishes in addition to the traditional ones. One of the best of its kind.

The List

2005/2006

Well established as one of the capital’s foremost gourmet chippers, L’Alba D’Oro is to deep frying what Harvey Nichols is to providing stylish clothes. With the establishment of Anima next door to serve pasta and pizza lovers, the staff at the slickly run L’Alba D’Oro are now free to focus their efforts on battered delicacies. The standard fish supper here is still reliably fresh tasting and well proportioned, but it doesn’t do any harm to venture beyond cod or haddock once in a while with seasonal options such as monkfish, squid or even king prawns coated with sage and ginger-infused breadcrumbs. Unfortunately, there is no delivery service but a quick jaunt into the New Town is a small price to pay for some of the best fish and chips in the city.
